In the National Assembly session on Wednesday, a bill calling for the formation of the National University of Security Sciences was introduced.
According to reports, Chaudhry Hamid Hameed, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), introduced a bill in the lower house to create the institution.
Following the introduction of the measure, the congressman expressed his disappointment that no university in the country teaches students how to collect forensic evidence in accordance with modern methods.
He went on to say that evidence collection procedures based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) have been implemented all across the world.
However, no comparable degree program is available at any of the country’s official higher education institutions.
Separately, the Finance Division has authorized an allocation of Rs. 41.87 billion in the FY2022-23 budget for 149 Public Sector Development Projects (PSDP) projects under the Higher Education Commission (HEC).
According to the budget paper for FY 2022-23, Rs. 354.07 million has been set aside for the construction of the National Center of Excellence in Big Data and Cloud Computing.
The National Center of Excellence in Cyber Security will receive Rs. 185 million, and the National Center of Excellence in Robotics and Automation will receive Rs. 200 million.
