The Meteorological Department has issued a thunderstorm warning for Karachi, effective from August 3 to 5, as the city grapples with the significant impacts of the ongoing monsoon system. In recent days, Karachi has been heavily affected by the monsoon system. On Wednesday night, the city saw clouds gathering and continuous rainfall affecting various areas. The Old City region experienced persistent rain from midnight into the morning, resulting in substantial water accumulation in low-lying areas such as Gurmandir (opposite Gul Rana Center) and Kashmir Road.

Recent statistics from the Meteorological Department reveal the extent of the rainfall. DHA Phase 2 recorded the highest precipitation at 13 mm. Other significant measurements include 11.1 mm at Old Airport, 11 mm at Quaidabad, and 6.2 mm at Sarjani. Additional readings show 6 mm at PAF Faisal Base, 5.5 mm in Kemari, and 5.3 mm in Gadap Town. Lower rainfall was noted at Jinnah Terminal (4 mm), Korangi (3.2 mm), and Hasan Square (3 mm).

On Thursday, Karachi experienced strong southwesterly winds at 31 km/h. The weather was characterized by cloudy skies with intermittent sunshine, offering a temporary break from the intense heat. The maximum temperature reached 31.6 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels at 82 percent.

Looking forward, a new wave of monsoon activity is expected to begin today, August 2. This system will impact regions including Rajasthan (India) and several areas in Sindh. Rain and thunderstorms are forecasted for Tharparkar, Badin, Sajawal, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Tandwalhiyar. Rural Sindh, including Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Kashmore, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, Umarkot, Nowshahr Feroze, Ghotki, and Sakharsim, may also experience significant rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunder from August 3 to August 6.
