Proton is working on introducing a new sedan model to its lineup, which will most likely fill the void left by the discontinuation of the Preve sedan in 2018.
Camouflaged test mules have been spotted running on Malaysian roads, indicating that the new sedan will be available in the Malaysian market soon.
According to reports, the test mule is a fourth generation Geely Emgrand model that was released in the Philippines earlier this year.
The Geely Emgrand-based sedan, which is expected to be dubbed the Proton S50, will represent Proton in the C-segment, competing with the Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and Hyundai Elantra.
Features:
- In terms of dimensions, the Geely Emgrand measures 4,638 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,460 mm tall with a 2,650mm wheelbase.
- the 11th gen Honda Civic we have here is 4,674 mm long while the 11th gen Corolla is 4,620 mm long, which means the Emgrand/ S50 fits between the aforementioned two.
- It rides on the same BMA (B-segment Modular Architecture) platform as the X50 crossover and can use the same 1.5L turbocharged three-cylinder engine as the X70.
Although in China, the Emgrand is equipped with a 1.5L naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine producing 113 hp and 147 Nm and mated to a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission that sends power to the front wheels.
