For the past six years, Proton has been selling the current generation Saga in Malaysia. In an effort to reclaim market share from Malaysia’s new blockbuster, Perodua Myvi, the business has finally chosen to give it a mid-cycle facelift.
According to the newest report from Malaysian automobile news, Proton will offer the facelifted version with an additional type, the Premium S automatic. There are four varieties in total, including the well-known Standard Manual, Standard Auto, and Premium Auto.
The motor in all four variations will be the same as in Pakistan: a 1298cc 4-cylinder petrol engine with 95 horsepower and 120 Newton-meters of torque. All other variations will have a 4-speed automatic transmission, while the standard manual will feature a 5-speed manual transmission
All four variations will be powered by the same 1298cc 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces 95 horsepower and 120 Newton-meters of torque in Pakistan. The 5-speed manual transmission will be standard on the Standard manual, while the 4-speed automatic transmission will be standard on all other models.
Other significant changes include:
- A.C. Climate Control has a new logo.
- Armrest/Storage Compartment in the Center
- Control of the track and stability (In Standard Auto variant and above)
- Assist on the Hill (In Standard Auto variant and above)
- 15-inch Alloy Wheels
- 7-inch Touch-Sensitive Floating Head Unit
- Side Mirrors with Electronic Folding (Premium S)
- Side Skirts in New Gauge Cluster (Premium S) (Premium S)
- Extensions for the Bumper (Premium S)
- Interior: Leatherette (Premium S)
- Push Button Start with Keyless Entry
A modest price rise for the Proton Saga makeover is possible, although no verified data are available at this time. However, the report claims that production has begun and that Proton would unveil the new model next month.
Saga is still failing to gain traction in Pakistan due to long delivery periods and little demand, but a facelift should help the firm break into the mainstream, as it is still Pakistan’s cheapest sedan.
