Ford has taken the brave step of introducing a locally built version of the classic 2024 Ford Bronco to Chinese consumers.
Classic 2024 Ford Bronco
This move has enormous ramifications for the Chinese automotive sector, and here’s everything you need to know about it:
Affordability
Previously, having a Ford Bronco in China was a pipe dream for many, but it came at a steep price of $96,200 to $165,000 (700,000 – 1,200,000 Chinese Yuans).
This was in stark contrast to the cost of the same automobile in the United States, which was less than half the price.
Fortunately, Ford has finally closed the price difference, putting the Bronco closer to the hearts of Chinese off-road lovers.
Maintaining Its Roots
Images of the Chinese-made Bronco show a strong resemblance to the American model. The inclusion of little Ford writing above the Bronco symbol on the front grille is the most visible alteration.
The Chinese Bronco had dimensions of 189-190 inches in length, 81.5 inches in width, and 78.3 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 116.1 inches.
While it preserves the genuine Bronco look, minor variances in width and height can be ascribed to differences in wheels and wheel arches.
Performance and power
The China-spec Bronco is powered by a 2.3-liter engine developed by the Changan Ford joint venture.
This engine produces 271 horsepower and 336 pound-feet of torque, making it somewhat less powerful than its US version, which produces 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque.
Notably, the engine is slated to be mated with an eight-speed automatic gearbox, as opposed to the 10-speed automatic gearbox used in the US version.
Interior: A Secret Revealed
While dramatic alterations to the interior of the Chinese Bronco are not expected, specifics remain few at this time, providing opportunity for anticipation and surprise.
Market and Competitive Pricing
The China-made Bronco’s production is slated to begin in early 2024, and it’s sure to make ripples in the market with an alluring starting price of roughly $41,200 (300,000 Chinese Yuan).
This aggressive pricing plan intends to democratise the Bronco experience in China by offering it at a price that is less than half of what it was previously.
The photographs show two separate four-door Broncos, raising questions regarding the two-door variant’s availability in China. Details on trim levels and equipment packages are yet to be revealed.
Chance for Off-Road Enthusiasts
The debut of the domestically made 2024 Ford Bronco in China represents an intriguing potential for the country’s off-road aficionados.
It offers an iconic vehicle at a far lower price range, ushering in a new era of adventure and discovery on China’s diverse terrain.
