The Tesla Model Y has just broken a 53-year-old Norwegian sales record. According to official data, 16,921 Model Y units have been registered in the Scandinavian country so far this year (as of December 23rd).
This is the most new registrations in a single year since 1969, when 16,699 Volkswagen Beetles were sold.
And because the month isn’t over yet, the figure is expected to rise even further – potentially to over 17,000 units in 2022. Tesla also confirmed its accomplishments on Twitter:

In Norway, the Tesla Model Y is having a fantastic year. So far in December 2022, approximately 4,000 units have been registered (and counting), setting a new monthly sales record.
The Tesla Model Y is the most popular model, with a market share of 10%, which means that every tenth new car in Norway is a Model Y.
Government incentives such as tax breaks and subsidies, as well as lower road tolls, are driving the rapid growth of the electric car market in Norway.
Norway has the highest rate of newly registered electric vehicles among European countries.
This year, approximately 25,000 new Tesla Model Ys have been registered in Norway, while 23,604 EVs by Volkswagen Group, including approximately 11,000 VW ID4s, 7,500 Skoda Enyaq iVs, and 5,500 Audi Q4 e-trons, have been registered in Norway.
