The Telenor Pakistan merger into Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), which operates as Ufone 5G, is now complete. As of July 1, 2026, Telenor Pakistan no longer exists as a separate company. Its network, customers, and operations are now fully part of PTML. This is one of the biggest deals in Pakistan’s telecom history.
Telenor Pakistan Merger: What Happened?
The Islamabad High Court gave the final legal approval for the deal. This was the last step in a long process that involved many government and regulatory bodies. With that approval, Telenor Pakistan officially merged into PTML.
PTML is a wholly owned subsidiary of PTCL (Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited). It will now run under the Ufone 5G brand and will serve the combined customer base of both Ufone and Telenor Pakistan.
What Does This Mean for Customers?
If you are a Telenor Pakistan customer, your service will continue without any break. Ufone 5G has promised a smooth transition. You will keep your number and connection while the two networks are brought together.
Over time, customers can expect better coverage and faster speeds. The combined company will have a stronger spectrum portfolio. Spectrum means the radio frequencies used to carry mobile signals. More spectrum usually means better call quality and faster mobile internet.
A Bigger and Stronger Network
The Telenor Pakistan merger creates a much larger telecom operator in Pakistan. The new combined entity will have:
- A wider network across Pakistan
- More spectrum for better mobile services
- Greater investment capacity for 5G expansion
- A larger customer base to serve
Pakistan’s telecom sector is going through big changes. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been part of the regulatory process that made this merger possible.
What PTCL’s CEO Said
Hatem Bamatraf, President and CEO of PTCL, called this a defining moment. He said, “This is a defining moment for our company and for Pakistan’s telecom industry. We are deeply grateful to the Government of Pakistan and to every institution involved in this process for their diligence and support throughout this journey.”
He also thanked customers and employees. He added that the goal is to bring “cutting-edge products and services that set a new benchmark for digital experience in Pakistan.”
The Telenor Pakistan Merger: A Long Time Coming
This deal did not happen overnight. It went through many stages. Multiple regulators had to check and approve it. The Islamabad High Court was the final authority. Now that the court has approved it, the merger is legally complete.
Telenor Pakistan was one of the major mobile operators in the country for many years. It built a large customer base and strong network. Now all of that becomes part of Ufone 5G and PTML.
Focus on 5G Expansion
The new combined company says its main goal is to expand 5G coverage in Pakistan. 5G is the latest generation of mobile internet. It is much faster than 4G and can support more devices at the same time.
With more resources and a bigger spectrum portfolio, PTML is now better placed to roll out 5G services across more cities and towns in Pakistan.
