Spotify recently added music videos, but now the’music app’ is expanding its platform to include learning courses, similar to YouTube and Skillshare.
The world’s largest music streaming app has clear plans to expand beyond music. We already have podcasts and audiobooks, and now we’ll be adding video tutorials for a variety of topics. Spotify has already started testing the feature with its UK customers.
To bring this project to life, the Swedish music streaming company collaborated with a number of educational technology companies, including BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, Skillshare, and Thinkific in the UK.
More companies are likely to be added as the feature expands to new regions in the future.
Unfortunately, a Spotify Premium subscription will not be sufficient to obtain these courses, as you must purchase them separately.
All Spotify users, regardless of whether they are free or Premium, will be able to view at least two free courses before having to purchase their next course.
The courses are located in the same section of the app as the music, podcasts, and audiobooks, making them easier to find.
According to Spotify’s announcement, these courses will cover a variety of topics, including making music, being creative, learning business, and living a healthy lifestyle.
Babar Zafar, Spotify’s VP of Product Development, commented on the new feature, saying:
Testing video courses in the U.K. allows us to explore an exciting opportunity to better serve the needs of our users who have an active interest in learning.
Many of our users engage with podcasts and audiobooks on a daily basis for their learning needs, and we believe this highly engaged community will be interested in accessing and purchasing quality content from video course creators.
