International Friendship Day is a worldwide celebration of the invaluable bond of friendship, and Spotify is adding its own melodic spin to it with the release of ‘Friends Mix.’
Friends are the ingredients that flavors life’s recipe. The memories made, the moments shared, and the emotions that brew in this relationship add a special flavor to our daily lives.
On Spotify, there are over 11 million user-generated playlists with the word “friend” in the title, with over 763 million minutes streamed of these playlists.
Unsurprisingly, Gen Z is the generation that is leading the charge in terms of using music to bond and interact.
When it comes to the friendliest generation, Gen Z streams “friend” playlists more than any other age group, accounting for 29 percent of Spotify streamers.
Our friends are clearly the ones we turn to for surefire song recommendations. One of the reasons Spotify created Blend, which combines the best of the platform’s personalization capabilities to make it easier for listeners to connect and discover music, is because it is one of the reasons Spotify created Blend.
Spotify’s continued emphasis on personalization is reinforced by the announcement of ‘Friends Mix.’ The ‘Friends Mix’ service creates custom playlists based on the ‘Blends’ that users have created with their BFFs.
The new personalized playlist is intended to assist people in discovering tracks that they share mutual admiration and love for with their friends.
‘Dosti’ or ‘Friendship’ has been a recurring theme in the melodic compositions of some of Pakistan’s biggest names.
The bond has been represented significantly across various genres, from the iconic ‘Dosti’ sung by the famous pop duo, Nazia Hassan and Zoheb Hassan, to tracks by the same title, ‘Dosti’ presented by Jawad Ahmed and Junoon.
Friends Mix isn’t showing up on your Made for You Hub? Begin with a Blend.
- In the Spotify search bar, type ‘Blend.’ Then, tap “Invite” to choose a friend to Blend with.
- Once your friend accepts the invitation, Spotify will create your shared Blend playlist, which will include songs and recommendations based on your and your friend’s music tastes and preferences. You’ll be able to see which songs were added specifically for you and your friend.
- After your friend joins the listening party, you’ll each receive a personalized share card to use on social media. The Blend will then continue to update on a daily basis.
- After you’ve made three 2-person Blends (with one other friend), you’ll be able to listen to a Friends Mix, our new playlist created just for you, in the Made for Us hub. There, you’ll find music that combines the tastes of your friends.
