On Tuesday at the U-21 Asian Snooker Championship in Tehran, Iran, young Pakistani phenom Ahsan Ramzan beat out Digvijay Kadyan of India, 4-3. Ramzan advanced to the final four by beating the Indian cueist.
The 17-year-old overcame a 3-2 deficit to win the match with scores of 19-76, 36-76, 67-35, 63-31, 72-55, 27-65, and 9-70. Now that Ramzan has made it to the final four, he is also guaranteed a medal in the Asian U-21 Championship.
Ramzan had already advanced to the elimination rounds by winning two group matches against Iranian opponents Arshia Tehrani and Ali Lelegani. The teenager started off his group play with a 3-0 Best of Five victory over Tehrani.
Pakistan has performed very well in Snooker Championship
The defeat for Tehrani continued as the Pakistani won all three sets. He won the first round by a score of 55-21, and then Ramzan showed off his all-around game by thrashing the Iranian in the second round by a score of 93-15. Maintaining his lead, he easily took the third round as well.
Ahsan, a young snooker prodigy, became only the second-youngest cueist in history to win the IBSF Snooker World Championship 2022 after orchestrating a remarkable comeback in the final against Iran’s Amir Sarkhosh from 4-2 down to eventually win 6-5.
After Muhammad Yousaf in 1994 and now Ahsan, he is only the third Pakistani snooker player to win the international amateur world title. Ahsan has already won the national titles at the U17, U18, and U19 levels and placed second at the U21 level.
