Through a notification released in September, the College Education Department established a computer science curriculum at 21 colleges in Karachi.
The concept was promptly abandoned despite the fact that no cash was given to establish computer laboratories at these universities or to hire subject-specific instructors. The initiative was doomed from the start, according to Professor Rauf, the principal of Government Degree Boys College, since we lacked computer science instructors or labs.
“We didn’t have any teachers or an Intermediate Board affiliation, nor did we have computer science admissions from the Central Admission Committee. Because of this, the admissions were returned to the committee,” he told.
According to a study, college officials informed the College Education Department of their resource shortage when the notice for establishing computer science departments was published, but to no effect. Computer science instruction at Government City College Musa Colony, Federal B Area, is not possible, according to Professor Khalil-ur-Rahman.
Rahman claims that after learning that the computer science program will not have laboratories or teachers, some students withdrew their applications. Regular classrooms and laboratory program for their other classes were offered to those who chose to stay, but not for computer science. Some computer science instructors have expressed a willingness to teach at the school in order to solve the issue, according to Rahman. The move won’t, however, alleviate the problem of funding for computer laboratories, stressed Rahman.
