The Sindh government has decided to implement the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications‘ Cloud First Policy (MoITT).
According to MoITT sources, this is the first time the Sindh government has consented to the federal government’s strategy, to which other provinces have already accepted.
Representatives of the Sindh administration raised qualms about the strategy during a meeting held in the ministry in February of this year, saying they will debate the topic within their province government. At the same conference, delegates from all other provinces supported the Cloud First Policy.
According to reports, the Sindh Government has not only decided to accept the policy, but has also begun work on its implementation. The Sindh government has produced a preliminary framework for the implementation of the Cloud First Policy and has referred it to the Law Department for review.
Sindh Government is expected to approve this framework after it has been reviewed by the law department. This framework outlines which responsibilities are the provinces’ duty under Cloud First Policy and how those tasks are to be executed by the provincial government.
According to MoITT sources, other provinces are also working on a framework to execute the Cloud First Policy inside their respective borders, in addition to Sindh. Following the ratification of these frameworks by the province governments, the implementation of cloud policy will speed. Provincial governments will build up a cloud acquisition agency to implement the strategy, similar to the Ministry of IT and Telecommunications.
