Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah authorised an extra Rs520 million to fund the current building of a new paediatric unit at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD).

The move was taken during the institute’s 82nd governing body meeting, which was held on Wednesday at the CM House.

Several key officials attended the meeting, including Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, MPAs Sadiya Javed and Rukhsana Parveen, Secretary Finance Fayaz Jatoi, Secretary to the Chief Minister Raheem Shaikh, Secretary Health Rehan Baloch, and NICVD Executive Director Dr. Tahir Saghir.
Job stress Of Paediatric Cardiac
Recognising the significant job stress of paediatric cardiac patients, officials decided to open two floors of the devoted paediatric building next year.
The project, which began in 2016-17, will receive an additional Rs520 million to speed up its completion.
Improve NICVD’s Stroke Intervention
During the meeting, it was stated that Rs628.3 million had been given in the current fiscal year 2023-2024 for the purchase of MRI machines. The expenditure aims to improve the NICVD’s stroke intervention program.
Dr. Tahir Saghir, NICVD’s newly appointed Executive Director, proposed an increase in the grant-in-aid/budget for fiscal year 2024-2025.
He emphasised the need for additional funds in response to significant inflation, rising dollar-based costs, and higher employee and imported equipment expenses.
Hospital’s Budget for FY 2023-24
The hospital’s budget for Fiscal Year 2023-24 was previously set at Rs8 billion.
The Chief Minister has directed Health Minister Dr. Azra Pechuho and Secretary Finance Fayaz Jatoi to assess the NICVD’s financial needs and make recommendations for his approval.

He also asked the NICVD administration to create a comprehensive patient treatment tracking system. This system will keep track of all expenditures, tests, procedures, and prescribed medications.
