According to the semi-official international news agency, Iran’s revolutionary guards have taken control of a foreign ship in the Gulf of Oman that was transporting 1.45 million liters of illegally obtained petroleum and have detained the crew of the vessel.
Iran is struggling to combat with fuel smuggling through ship and land
Iran, which has some of the cheapest fuel prices in the world as a result of substantial subsidies and the drop in the value of its national currency, has been combatting rampant fuel smuggling by land and by water to neighboring nations. This is because Iran has some of the cheapest fuel prices in the world.
