Shehbaz Sharif, president of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), took oath on Monday as Pakistan’s 24th Prime Minister (PM).
During a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadar, President Arif Alvi delivered the oath to newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The ceremony was attended by caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar, PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chief Ministers, governors, and other dignitaries.
Shehbaz Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, was elected as the country’s 24th prime minister. He received 201 votes, while his Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) opponent, Omar Ayub Khan, received only 92.
The session, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, opened with PML-N leader Jam Kamal taking his oath.
As soon as the session began, SIC MPs screamed slogans to express their protest while brandishing images of PTI founder Imran Khan.
He was supported by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan, and Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP).
In his inaugural speech, Pakistan’s Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif called on the opposition to sign a ‘Charter of Reconciliation’ to steer the country out of crisis.
“Work ahead is difficult’ but not impossible,” he said in his NA victory speech, surrounded by party legislators.
