The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 comes with two major upgrades: the Flex Hinge and the Flex Window, which address the Z Flip4’s two main flaws: the significant gap that remained when it was closed and the undersized cover display. Flex Window is simply a new name for the phone’s larger outer screen.

Display and Design
For the first time, the phone can close completely flat thanks to the newly introduced Flex Hinge. This modification also makes the phone slimmer and prevents pocket dust or other particles from entering the main screen inside.
The primary display on the Z Flip 5 is a 6.7′′ 1080p panel (22:9 ratio) with an adaptive refresh rate ranging from 1 to 120Hz. This time, Samsung claims that the softer screen is 25% more scratch resistant.
The outer display has a diagonal measurement of 3.4′′ due to its unique shape, and a resolution of 720 x 748px, which equates to 306 ppi. To conserve battery power, this display operates at a refresh rate of 60Hz.
In comparison to the Z Flip 4, the outer screen is nearly 278% larger. This larger display allows you to interact with widgets such as checking the weather, controlling music, changing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings, and even responding to texts using a full QWERTY keyboard.
Of course, the viewfinder is much larger than before, making selfies with the main camera much easier.
- Software and Internals
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy chipset (found in the S23 series) powers the device. It comes with 8 GB of RAM and storage capacities of 256 GB or 512 GB.
There is no memory card slot for storage expansion in Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5, as there was previously.
In terms of software, the phone runs Android 13L, which is optimized for folding screens. On top of that is Samsung’s newer One UI 5.1.1 skin.
- Cameras
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 camera configuration is unchanged from last year’s model. The primary 12MP module includes a 1/1.76′′ sensor with large 1.8m pixels and Dual Pixel AF, as well as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) on the f/1.8 lens. It also has a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 123° lens (1.12m pixels).
Even though the main cameras are capable of taking selfies from the cover screen, there is a dedicated interior selfie camera, which is a 10MP shooter with an 85° lens (f/2.2, 1.22m pixels).
These cameras can record 4K videos, but the selfie sensor is limited to 30 frames per second, whereas the main lens can reach 60.
- Pricing and Battery
The battery specifications of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 have remained largely unchanged, with a capacity of 3,700 mAh. It supports 25W wired charging, which can recharge 50% of the battery in about half an hour, and 15W wireless charging.
The 128 GB base model from last year has been discontinued, so the starting price is higher than before, but you do get 256 GB storage instead. Having said that, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 currently has a starting price of £1,050 in the UK.
The phone will be available in a variety of colors such as Mint, Graphite, Cream, Lavender, Gray, Blue, Green, and Yellow, as well as an equally diverse and stylish lineup of protective cases.
