Livewire, Harley-electric Davidson’s motorcycle offshoot, has unveiled its most economical model yet, the S2 Del Mar.
The first batch of Del Mar motorcycles, dubbed the Launch Edition, will cost $17,699, with base model versions starting at $15,000.
The S2 Del Mar is a middleweight motorcycle, making it more approachable than the Livewire One from last year.
It’s based on Livewire’s Arrow platform, which combines a battery, electronics, and motor into a single unit into which the business can plug numerous model kinds.
According to LiveWire, the Del Mar will use the S2 platform, which is built for middleweight motorcycles. Arrow, on the other hand, is intended to be scalable, with future iterations planned to feature a lightweight S3 and a heavyweight S4 design.
The S2 Del Mar is expected to have 80 horsepower (59.6kW) and weigh less than 440 pounds, with zero to 60 mph times of 3.5 seconds or less. According to LiveWire, the new motorcycle would have a city driving range of roughly 100 miles.
The S2 Del Mar rides on two 19-inch Dunlop DT1 tires that are suitable for both paved and off-road riding. A tracker-style handlebar in front of a thin fly screen sets the rider in an upright stance, allowing for “a pleasant and controlled riding experience,” according to source.
And the bike is already proving to be very popular among clients. According to a spokeswoman, the reservation deposits for the 100 Launch Edition variants of the S2 Del Mar were picked up in just 18 minutes.
Customers can still sign up for the standard S2 Del Mar wait list, which is anticipated to begin deliveries in early 2023.
While the first LiveWire electric motorcycle was hailed for being well-built and enjoyable to ride, it was frequently chastised for being overpriced, with a starting price of $29,799. The LiveWire One, which was released in July 2021, was more economical, with prices starting at $21,999.
