Companies that produce beverages have been ordered by the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) to recycle their plastic bottles.
This was said by PFA DG Raja Jahangir Anwar while presiding over the PFA Scientific Panel meeting on Wednesday. He claimed that the initiative’s goal was to lessen Punjab’s exposure to the consequences of pollution and global warming.
A number of beverage businesses would sell their fizzy drinks in PET bottles produced from food-grade recycled plastic, it was announced at the meeting.
In this regard, beverage firms would initially recycle 4% of all plastic bottles produced; by 2030, this percentage should increase to 50%.
In the discussion, the members of the scientific panel also went over the technical elements of using rPET.

According to PFA DG, the businesses will analyze rPET bottles in a lab once every three months and submit a lab report to the regulatory body every quarter to make sure they are safe for consumption by humans and the environment.
According to DG PFA, the PFA laboratory will soon offer businesses the ability to test rPET plastic. Additionally, he added, PFA will help beverage manufacturing firms in whatever way it can to address the challenges involved in producing rPET.
Raja Jahangir claimed that food-grade plastic recycling will lessen plastic pollution because the everyday consumption of millions of bottles has a negative impact on the environment because they don’t disappear.
He added that recycling rPET bottles would serve as a vehicle for attracting foreign investment to Pakistan. In light of the scientific panel’s suggestions, he said, a new action plan will be created.
