On Monday, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif announced that the selection process for the new COAS had begun after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif formally requested a list of the probable candidates in a letter to the Ministry of Defence.
The defence minister made a suggestion during his speech to the National Assembly that the important appointment would be formally announced in the next three days.
He had earlier stated in a tweet that the procedure had begun and will be finished quickly after meeting all constitutional conditions.
“The process will complete in two to three days. The excitement will end, after which we will deal with Imran Khan,” the defence minister said.
Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed in a television appearance that the prime minister had written the defence ministry a letter requesting that they deliver the summaries and dossiers of qualified lieutenant generals for the positions of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and COAS.
On November 26, when PTI Chairman and former premier Imran Khan is due to hold a protest in Rawalpindi as part of his campaign for early elections, he stated the announcement of the new COAS would be made.
Asif claimed that the GHQ had also been informed and that the defence ministry had acknowledged receiving the letter from the PM.
