Most government payments will soon be made online by citizens free of charge through the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP).
Salman Sufi, the Head of the Strategic Reforms Unit under the Prime Minister, claims that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the relevant divisions to take action to make the system of government payment transactions simpler and more effective so that citizens can easily make these payments from home via an online system.
The PM’s aide tweeted, “A Cashless economy requires robust online Payment systems with minimal or no changes to the citizen. On PM @CMShehbaz direction majority of Government payments by citizens in the National Bank will soon be payable Online without additional charges. No trip to Bank”.
According to Salman Sufi, most government payments made by citizens through NBP would shortly be made online without any extra charges starting right after Eid-ul-Adha, under the instruction of PM Shehbaz.
Within the following six months, efforts will be made to convert all government transactions to internet banking.
The President NBP has received the required orders in this regard. The current government’s action is a step in the right direction toward a cashless society.
