Prime Minister Imran Khan launched the Ehsaas Riyayat Ration Scheme on Monday, which will provide a monthly subsidy of 30% on daily use items to 20 million households.
Flour, cooking oil, ghee, and pulse prices will be reduced as part of the targeted subsidy for the poor and middle class.
During the launch ceremony, the Prime Minister stated that helping the poor was the best aspect of humanity and was in accordance with God’s commandments and Prophet Muhammad’s teachings (Peace be upon Him).
He expressed satisfaction that the socio-welfare program, Ehsaas, provided financial assistance to deserving people during the pandemic, which was recognized internationally.
He confirmed that 98 percent of the financial assistance provided through the Ehsaas program went to needy women.
He remarked that a country cannot flourish unless its resources are used to help women, particularly in the areas of education and health.
The Prime Minister asked everyone to pay taxes, stating that the money would be used for people’s welfare and development. Despite the global rise in oil prices, he emphasized that Pakistan’s rates of key goods were remained lower than the rest of the world.
He stated that the government had recently given a subsidy on gasoline and diesel to help customers.
He claimed that the government’s national health insurance program was a significant step toward making free medical treatment more accessible to the general public.
Senator Sania Nishtar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Welfare, said the Ehsaas initiative has completed three successful years in accordance with transparency standards.
She also stated that the distribution of Rs. 71 billion in monetary assistance would begin under the Ehsaas Kafalat scheme.
During the pandemic, she noted, the program continued to provide financial assistance to eligible members of society.
