The government of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) has prohibited the use, sale, and manufacture of plastic bottles, citing their negative impact on human health and the broader ecological system.
Ban on Plastic Bottles in GB
On Thursday, a meeting chaired by the Chief Secretary, Gilgit-Baltistan, and attended by the Inspector General and the Home Secretary, it was decided to prohibit the use, sale, manufacturing, and transportation of plastic bottles in Gilgit-Baltistan due to their negative effects on human health and the overall ecological system.
It was agreed to issue an injunction under Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting the shipment of plastic bottles from the country to the United Kingdom beginning September 1, 2023.
All government departments, connected departments, subordinate offices, autonomous bodies, and semi-government organizations must be given the necessary instructions to avoid using these bottles in offices, meetings, seminars, and workshops.
It was also determined that water dispensers would be used as a future substitute beginning on August 25, 2023.

For many years, Gilgit-Baltistan has worked to eliminate plastic bottles due to their harmful effects on human health and the environment.
A number of awareness programs were initiated to educate the general public and business community, as well as other measures deemed necessary to eliminate the threat.
