By outlawing single-use plastics in the federal capital, the Federal Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has made tremendous progress in the fight against pollution.
Recent reports state that the government has instructed officials to levy steep fines on anyone who use, sell, or supply single-use plastic products.
Ban on Plastic Bags to Begin from August 1st
Beginning on August 1, this important ban will be put into effect in Islamabad, and anyone found in violation will face swift consequences.
Single-use plastic items are not allowed to be used, manufactured, imported, distributed, delivered, sold, stored, or purchased, according to the department in charge of managing this program.
This includes plastic bags, dishes, silverware including spoons, forks, and knives, food service boxes, cups, plates, and bowls, as well as other household products.
These things won’t be allowed in hotels, markets, parks, or entertainment venues, and their use will be strictly restricted. Anyone discovered using or in possession of such items will face harsh penalties.
The manufacturers and importers would be liable to a substantial fine of Rs. 1 million to ensure compliance.
Similar penalties of Rs. 10,000 will apply to shop owners, stall owners, hawkers, and suppliers who sell these illegal goods.
Individuals who are caught using goods made from the material in parks or on public property will be subject to a Rs. 1,000 spot fine.
The Environmental Protection Agency has been instructed by the Ministry of Climate Change to begin an awareness campaign about the prohibition.
