The Sindh government is taking big steps to fight Karachi’s bad air pollution by bringing in electric taxis. Sharjeel Inam Memon, Sindh’s Minister for Information, Excise, Narcotics, and Transport, announced this plan. They will have regular and pink EV taxis. This aims to give people a cleaner and cheaper way to travel.
“Pakistan’s first electric taxis and pink electric taxis will start soon,” said Minister Memon on social media. This is a big step towards clean city travel.
Karachi has a big problem with air pollution. This is because there are too many cars that use gasoline. The city does not have enough buses and trains for people to use. This makes travel hard and costly. People have to rely on their own cars, which makes pollution worse.
Earlier this year, Karachi received a boost with the addition of 30 hybrid and 50 electric buses to its Peoples Bus Service fleet, bolstering efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality. The forthcoming introduction of EV taxis represents another crucial step towards enhancing Karachi’s sustainable transportation options.
With this move, the Sindh government not only aims to mitigate Karachi’s environmental challenges but also to promote a more sustainable and eco-friendly urban transport system. As the city prepares to embrace EV technology in its taxi services, residents anticipate cleaner air and reduced dependency on fossil fuels for their daily commutes.
