Over 1,000, Including Pakistanis, Entered Thailand from Myanmar This Week After Scam Hub Raid

Over 1,000 people, including several Pakistanis, fled from Myanmar into Thailand this week after the Myanmar military raided one of the country’s biggest cyber scam hubs. Thai officials confirmed the incident, saying the sudden escape happened after troops launched a major operation at the KK Park compound, a well-known online scam center located near the border with Thailand.

The Raid on KK Park Compound

The KK Park compound has long been linked to large international cybercrime networks. According to Thailand’s Tak provincial office, around 1,049 people crossed from Myanmar into the Mae Sot district between Wednesday and Friday morning. This marked a sharp rise from 677 who had fled by Thursday, showing how quickly panic spread after the raid began earlier in the week.

Pakistanis and Other Foreign Nationals Identified

Officials confirmed that the group included citizens from Pakistan, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and several other countries. Many of them had been trapped or were working in the compound under uncertain conditions. Thailand’s Immigration Bureau said most of those who arrived were Chinese men, but a notable number of South Asian nationals were also among those escaping into Thai territory.

Seizure of Starlink Devices During Operation

Myanmar’s military stated that during the operation, they seized several Starlink satellite internet devices that were being used by the scammers to operate their online networks. A recent AFP report revealed that these Starlink devices had become common across Myanmar’s scam hubs, allowing operators to stay connected even in remote areas. The confiscation marks a strong step in cutting their communication channels.

Images Show Fleeing Workers Under Thai Guard

Authorities in Thailand’s Tak province shared images showing groups of men sitting beside their luggage, closely watched by Thai security forces. The photos reflected the human side of the crisis tired and uncertain faces of people who had suddenly been left behind everything. Officials said they are being held temporarily for questioning before being moved to safer locations.

Growing Concern Over Regional Cybercrime

The escape from KK Park has once again drawn global attention to Southeast Asia’s cybercrime industry. Experts warn that these scam hubs have become a serious regional threat, trapping thousands of workers from many nations. The presence of Pakistanis among the fleeing group highlights how far-reaching these operations are and how they continue to exploit people through illegal online schemes.

Joint Efforts Needed to Tackle the Issue

Authorities in Thailand and Myanmar are now discussing joint measures to address the growing cybercrime problem. The incident serves as a reminder of the urgent need for regional cooperation. With the escape of over a thousand people, including Pakistanis, the world is seeing how dangerous and widespread these online crime networks have become across Asia.
