AI features are the new craze in smartphones these days. Google started the trend with the Pixel 8, and Samsung followed suit with the Galaxy S24. OnePlus has finally boarded the hype line and introduced its first AI function, AI Eraser.
As the name implies, this tool is comparable to Google’s Magic Eraser, which uses AI to eliminate undesired subjects from a shot.
OnePlus has revealed sample photographs of its AI Eraser feature, letting us know what to expect. Take a look at the wedding photo below to see how the AI Eraser removes the unnecessary arms.
AI Eraser will be available this month on the newest OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R, and OnePlus Nord CE4 smartphones, as well as older generation smartphones such as the OnePlus Open, OnePlus 11, and others in all territories where they are available.
The lone exception is Europe, which is set to receive an AI Eraser later this year in Q2 2024, or before the end of June.
OnePlus has not confirmed whether this functionality would be available as part of a picture gallery upgrade or an OxygenOS/ColorOS update. It is still unclear whether AI processing will take place on-device or in the cloud.
OnePlus claims that the AI model behind this function is:
Trained on a vast dataset that allows it to comprehend complex scenes. It can intelligently substitute unwanted objects with contextually appropriate elements that naturally elevate the photo’s appeal, empowering users with the ability to make high-quality photo edits anywhere and at any time.
The business has clarified that AI Eraser is merely the first step, with more generative AI features coming later this year.
AI Eraser represents the first step in our vision to liberate user creativity through AI and revolutionize the future of photo editing, empowering users to create remarkable photos with just a few touches. This year, we plan to introduce more AI features, and we look forward to their upcoming availability.
