The new Alienware m17 R5 and x17 R2 gaming laptops, which were announced earlier this year, are now available. These 17.3-inch monsters are the first in the world to include an ultra-fast 480Hz FHD screen for the most intense, competitive gamers, in addition to the newest CPU and GPU combinations.
Alienware’s new m17 R5 and x17 R2 gaming laptops feature the same refresh rate with a 3ms reaction time as the 480Hz laptop and desktop screens previously demonstrated by AU Optronics. For those of us who aren’t heavily into jittery, esports shooters, this ridiculous amount is primarily about bragging rights. However, competitive players will probably value any millisecond edge they can get from their equipment.
These laptops must also have some robust components on the inside because they refresh at a rate of around 500 times per second in 1080p quality. In terms of the AMD-powered m17 R5, Alienware offers the 8C/16T Ryzen 7 6800H or Ryzen 9 6900HX, with GPU options ranging from the entry-level 4GB RTX 3050Ti to the top-tier 16GB RTX 3080Ti.
The $1,650 base model also has 16GB RAM, a 512GB m.2 PCIe SSD, and a 165Hz FHD G-Sync display in addition to the entry-level CPU and GPU configurations. While selecting the 480Hz FHD screen instantly raises the price to $2,300 and the GPU to an RTX 3070 Ti.
Although the base model of the Intel-powered x17 R2 starts at a higher price of $2,248, it comes with a 6GB RTX 3060 rather than the 3050Ti. The x17 R2 from Alienware has the same memory, storage, and display choices as the AMD-powered m17 R5, but it has either the 14C/20T Core i7-12700H or the fastest i9-12900HK from Intel.
You’re looking at over $5,000 worth of gaming gear for a fully equipped Intel model with Windows 11 Pro, an RTX 3080 Ti, 64GB RAM, a 4TB m.2 PCIe SSD, and the blazing 480Hz FHD display.
