Nothing Phone (2a) is the British phone maker’s next affordable device, maintaining its signature design language.
As the name implies, it is a less expensive version of the Nothing Phone (2), which was released last year, but it sacrifices a few features to keep the cost low.
Design and Display
Nothing states that the Phone (2a) employs the first-ever internal Nothing phone design concept, which was developed in 2020.
Dual Camera
The dual main camera, dubbed “the eyes” by Nothing, is the design’s most striking feature. It’s immediately above the NFC coil on the see-through back panel.
The Glyph interface features 26 separately programmable zones. The three lights enable the Glyph Timer, alerts, the Glyph Torch, and Glyph Progress.
The display is a 6.78-inch 10-bit AMOLED with 1080p resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz, which may be reduced to 30Hz to save power. The phone has a max brightness of 1300 nits, which is impressive for a cheap phone.
Internals & Software
The Dimensity 7200 Pro chip, developed by Nothing in collaboration with MediaTek, powers the Nothing Phone (2a).
This System-on-Chip (SoC) is built with TSMC’s newest 4nm process and has a clock speed of up to 2.8GHz. RAM and storage options are 8 GB/12 GB and 128 GB/256 GB.
Running Nothing OS 2.5 on top of Android 14, the phone provides users with three years of Android updates and four years of security patches.
Cameras
The Nothing Phone (2a) has a dual 50MP back camera setup and the same 32MP f/2.2 selfie camera (1/2.74-inch) as its predecessor, the Nothing Phone (2).
The primary cameras include a 50MP f/1.88 wide-angle lens with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and a 50MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultrawide lens.
Battery and Pricing
The Nothing Phone (2a) sports the largest battery of any Nothing phone, featuring a 5,000 mAh cell and 45W cable charging capabilities. It can charge to 50% in 23 minutes and reach full capacity in 59 minutes.
Nothing guarantees that even after 1,000 charging cycles, or more than three years of daily use, the battery will keep 90% of its original capacity, assuring long-term performance. Nothing Phone (2a) starts at €329.
