Tecno, a well-known smartphone manufacturer, unveiled an intriguing rollable phone design called the Phantom Ultimate last year. Initially seen only in demo films.
This concept has now matured into a physical prototype, which made a big presence at the Mobile World Congress (MWC).

The Tecno Phantom Ultimate, like last year’s model, allows you to expand the screen to the back.
However, after the main screen is enlarged, the extra screen on the back moves back to the front. This is best demonstrated in the demo video from last year.
However, we have a hands-on image of the prototype from MWC. It also demonstrates how the UI may alter to accommodate the rolling screen, but more on that later.
Display
Starting with a 6.55″ display that beautifully curves around its left edge, the phone morphs at the press of a button. The screen expands rapidly, gradually unfurling to accommodate extra room.
Within 1.3 seconds, the screen size increases to 7.11″, but with a slightly different aspect ratio, demonstrating the device’s display technology’s smooth progression.
The Phantom Ultimate, like foldable phones, can alter its user interface to accommodate the shifting screen. The interface and programmes can shift around when the screen expands or contracts.
Initially, with a thickness of 9.93mm, the device was one of the slimmest options among foldable smartphones.
Slimmest Phone
However, subsequent developments in horizontal folding devices have surpassed this criterion, with some now measuring less than 10mm, including the Honour Magic V2, which is currently the market’s slimmest foldable.
The Tecno Phantom Ultimate is not intended to be sold, but rather to highlight the technology that Tecno is developing, hence the “concept” title.
