NIO, a well-known Chinese electric vehicle maker, made a huge entry into the smartphone market with the unveiling of its first phone at a lavish event in China.

The smartphone includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU and a triple-camera configuration with 50 MP lenses.
Notably, this smartphone also functions as a car key, one of more than 30 vehicle-related functionalities available via a specialised app.
The Nio smartphone has a 6.81-inch LTPO OLED display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 1800 nits.
It has a 1440p resolution and is available with either 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM, as well as storage capacities of 512 GB or 1 TB.
Camera Innovation
The camera arrangement stands out with a distinct island design that deviates from the standard circular or rectangular layouts.
Three 50 MP Cameras
All three 50 MP cameras, complemented by an LED flash, are arranged in a square arrangement. The primary 50 MP camera is positioned in the bottom left corner and features a Sony IMX707 sensor with OIS.
The ultra-wide-angle shooter is located in the top left corner and has a Sony IMX766 sensor with a 110-degree field of view.
Finally, the third shooter is a periscope telephoto camera with a Sony IMX890 sensor and 2.8x optical zoom in the lower right corner.
Nio Link Integration
The accompanying app, Nio Link, is at the heart of the device’s car-related functionality.
The phone can communicate with the automobile via UWB technology, automatically locking and unlocking when in close proximity.
The app also includes controls for air conditioning, seat changes, music, and important battery capacity and predicted range statistics.
Automobile Integration
The Nio Phone connects easily with the ES8 automobile, acting as a control screen for various automotive features like as music and ambient lighting.
Pre-programmed destinations can be configured via the specialised navigation app, with an instantaneous switch to the entertainment system upon entering the vehicle. Furthermore, the phone may use the car’s external cameras to record, edit, and share videos.
Dual-Screen Capability
The Nio Phone can function as an external screen for the car, running a second app at the same time. This feature is useful for video calls and games.
The phone has Sky UI for quick access to Nio Link, a visually appealing interface, and is free of advertisements and bloatware.
Enhanced Security Measures
The Nio Phone prioritises security due to its enhanced automobile access capabilities. It has strong malware protection and superior encryption for data kept on-device and in the cloud.
The phone has a large 5,200 mAh battery that supports 66W cable fast charging, 50W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. It also carries an IP68 certification.
Seven Distinct Colours
Black, light blue, gold, dark blue, green, grey, and rose gold. Some models have a glass panel on the back, while others have a leather-like feel.
Pricing
The Nio Phone is priced at CNY6,499 ($900/€835) for the 12/512 GB variant. The 12 GB/1 TB model costs CNY6,899 ($950/€900), while the 16 GB/1 TB model costs CNY7,499 ($1,025/€965).
