To promote modesty on campus, Karakoram International University (KIU) in Gilgit is considering imposing new dress code restrictions for both male and female students.
On the KIU campus, all types of shorts, low-hanging slacks, and shirts with enormous graphics or photos, as well as loose neck, see-through, and skin-tight dresses, have been advocated. In addition, students will not be permitted to wear sunglasses or p-caps in the classroom.
Female students will be expected to wear shirts that cover their knees in particular. Female students who do not wear a headscarf will be denied access to the campus.
Students who do not follow the dress code will face severe consequences. On the first offence, students will receive a verbal warning. On the second offence, they will be fined. In the event of a third infraction, they will be asked to appear before a disciplinary committee, which could result in their dismissal from the institute.
The draught of male and female student dress rules is currently circulating on social media sites, eliciting conflicting comments from users, with some applauding the decision and others criticizing it.
KIU administrators, on the other hand, have acknowledged that the university has established dress guidelines for male and female students. KIU administrators have stated, however, that the university is simply evaluating the dress requirements at this time and that nothing has been approved.
