Read moreNepal has lost 14 people because of landslides, lightning, and floods from heavy rains during the monsoon season, which lasts from June to September each year. This time brings a lot of damage across South Asia. Floods and landslides are getting worse because of climate change and more roads being built.
Dijan Bhattarai, who speaks for the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, told AFP that on Wednesday, four people died, including two children. They tragically died when their homes were swept away by a landslide in Lamjung district, west of Kathmandu.
Besides these losses, four more people died in different landslides, and five were killed by lightning strikes. Sadly, one person drowned in floodwater. The number of deaths is going up, with six more reported since the beginning of this month’s monsoon.
This shows the urgent need for better preparation and efforts to lessen disasters in Nepal. Communities are struggling because of these natural disasters.
