The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the top agency that efficiently oversaw Pakistan’s reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic, has been shut down by the Federal Government.
It will become dysfunctional on March 31, 2022, according to details. From April 1, 2022, the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad will be in charge of the country’s Coronavirus response.
From next month, Pakistan’s COVID-19 response will be managed by the National Institutes of Health’s Center for Disease Control (CDC). The CDC is currently offline, and the NCOC’s records are being moved to it.
Prime Minister Imran Khan established the NCOC in April 2020 as the main organisation in charge of the national COVID-19 response policy and implementation. Since its creation, the NCOC has been led by Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar.
Pakistan has always been among the top countries with the most successful response against Coronavirus thanks to NCOC. Many international institutions, like the IMF and the Lowy Institute, have named Pakistan as one of the best COVID-19 responders.
NCOC was in charge of the country’s COVID-19 vaccination policy as well as containing the Coronavirus. More than 100 million of the country’s total vaccine-eligible population have been inoculated against the Coronavirus since the countrywide immunization program began in February 2021.
