Nawaz Sharif, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, has benefited from the Naya Pakistan Sehat Card scheme, which is run by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
According to claims in the media, the Punjab government has granted a health card to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo’s CNIC.
This means that the former prime minister, who has been in self-imposed exile in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than two years, is eligible for up to Rs. 1 million in free medical treatment. He can even use this facility for the treatment of one of his family members as the head of his household.
Ironically, the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC), which oversees Sehat Card distribution in the province, is completely oblivious of the situation. Dr. Ali Razzaq, the company’s CEO, told ARY News that he couldn’t confirm whether Nawaz Sharif had received a health card.
Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Punjab’s Minister of Health, later confirmed that Sharif’s health insurance card is available, and that he can return to Pakistan to obtain it. She said, “I request that he return to Pakistan and receive his card.”
Minister Dr. Yasmin Rashid stated that anybody who pays taxes should be able to take advantage of government services.
