A Rs. 50 fee would be imposed on petroleum goods under revisions to the budget adopted by the National Assembly for the fiscal year 2022–2023
On Wednesday, the lower chamber of parliament convened to vote on the budget measure clause-by-clause.
After a two-hour delay, the meeting started, with Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr. Aisha Ghous Pasha stating that the budget for the upcoming fiscal year was not altered in response to the World Bank’s request (IMF).
She said that 80% of the modifications were directly connected to taxation while discussing recent government choices to levy taxes on large businesses, high earners, and the salaried class.
We want to tax the wealthy and help the needy, she declared. The national assembly then voted to accept the measure to charge a Rs. 50 fee on petroleum items.
Miftah Ismail, the finance minister, commented on the move and said that there isn’t now a tax on petroleum goods.
“The House has given the administration authorization to charge a petroleum fee of 50 rupees per litre on petroleum products. There is now no hope or discussion of exceeding this amount, he stated.
The NA also changed the law to impose a 5% tax on the expertise of IT and software professionals and to use electricity bills to charge shops sales tax.
