On Tuesday, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) clarified a bogus message about overseas voting that was spreading on social media.
The authority claimed in a Twitter post that a bogus message is spreading on social media, claiming that the NADRA has established a mechanism for overseas voting in partnership with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
“It is clarified that no such message has been shared/issued/published by NADRA,” the tweet stated.
In a related event, the ECP has denied reports that it is not prepared to hold general elections within three months.
Earlier in the day, a news site reported that the election commission will need at least six months to prepare for the general elections, citing “ECP officials.”
The ECP, on the other hand, clarified on its official Twitter account that no such statement had been published by the commission.
“It is necessary to clarify that the Election Commission of Pakistan has not issued any statement regarding the election,” the tweet read.
A representative for the ECP acknowledged that a task force was formed in accordance with the law. “The team consisted of IT professionals and elections experts who presented a report to the Supreme Court of Pakistan, pointing out secrecy of ballot papers and no documentation in physical form as main reasons for this decision.”
He went on to say that the pilot project will be used during by-elections as a test before being made operational for regular elections.
