In just six hours, more than 300 millimetres of rain fell over Mumbai, the bustling megacity in India. The 12-million-person metropolis was severely disrupted by this intense downpour. Rail services were suspended and roads were inundated.
Officials reported 11.8 inches of rain by morning, which resulted in the closure of institutions and schools and the interruption of flights. To keep safe, authorities advised the public to take preventative actions.
Eknath Shinde, the chief minister of Maharashtra, encouraged people to stay inside until absolutely necessary. He emphasised how the severe rains had caused major traffic congestion and disruptions to transit networks.
