During the second Imam Reza Cup in Mashhad, Iran, Pakistani competitors won five medals, including two gold.
Pakistan’s sprinters Shajjar Abbas and Abdul Mueed Baloch won gold and bronze medals in the 200m race on Monday, the event’s second and final day.
Abbas finished in 20.91 seconds, setting a new competition record for gold in Mashad. Meanwhile, Baloch finished third in 21.41 seconds.
Mohammad Yasir also won a gold medal in the Javelin Throw.
Mueed won a bronze medal in the 400m event yesterday, finishing in 46.73 seconds, a new men’s national record for Pakistan in the event.
Meanwhile, Shehroz Khan took silver in the High Jump. The Pakistani athletes were assisted by coaches Qazi Tanveer Hussain and Rana Sajjad Ahmad Khan. Pacer Shahnawaz Dahani of the Pakistan cricket team also praised Abbas and Baloch on their achievements on the international scene.
Yasir’s performance in the Javelin Throw helped Pakistan win its second gold medal of the competition. Earlier in the day, Shajar Abbas won gold in the 200m event, while fellow sprinter Mueed Baloch took bronze.
Pakistan earned two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals in the two-day tournament.
