Mitsubishi has officially stopped manufacturing the Mirage hatchback in Japan. “Due to the end of Mirage production, body colours, options, and so on may not meet your request,” Mitsubishi’s Japanese website says in red text (translated). For more information, please contact our sales staff.”
Mirage’s demise in its home market has cast doubt on its future in export markets.
The Mirage also has a sedan sibling called the Attrage, which is essentially the same car but with a boot, and it is also expected to be phased out along with the hatchback.
The current 6th generation model went into production in April 2012 as a hatchback and June 2013 as a sedan, so it’s quite old.
Throughout these years, Mitsubishi introduced numerous facelifts to keep the vehicle looking fresh and current. However, with the Mirage now a decade old, the Japanese automaker believes it is no longer viable to drag it.
Other than Japan, the Mitsubishi Mirage is the company’s main offering in markets such as ASEAN, Europe, and even North America.
However, it is unclear whether Mitsubishi will launch a new generation model or replace it with a completely different vehicle.
However, no test mule has been spotted as of yet. With the growing popularity of crossovers and electrified small cars, it’s too difficult for a decade-old car with a conventional engine to compete today.
