Microsoft Edge is no longer utilized solely as a download manager for Chrome or other browsers. Microsoft’s redesigned internet browser has now surpassed Safari as the world’s second most used browser.
This change was discovered on Statcounter, a website that displays global market share for common web browsers. Microsoft Edge now has 9.65 percent of the global browser market share, just ahead of Safari’s 9.57 percent, according to March 2022 figures.
Edge was slated to take over Safari in February 2022, so Microsoft’s victory over Apple may not be transitory. Safari’s loss of users and Edge’s rise has progressively shifted the balance of power to the latter.
With an astounding 67.26 percent market share, Google Chrome continues to hold a commanding lead. This demonstrates that it remains the undisputed king of browsers and is unlikely to be surpassed anytime soon.
Firefox and Opera are the other two names in the top five.
Mozilla Firefox now has a market share of 7.57 percent, whereas Opera has a measly 2.83 percent.
It’s worth noting that the figures above only apply to PCs and laptops. When it comes to smartphones, tablets, and other mobile platforms, Safari reclaims second place with an 18.85 percent share, while Edge falls to 4.05 percent.
Microsoft’s success is most likely due to Edge becoming a more advanced browser over time, or Windows 11 requiring users to use it for system-related links, or a combination of the two.
