The Second Pakistani Woman to be Honorably Awarded
Because of this, Malala was recognized as only the second woman from Pakistan, after former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, to have her portrait hung at Lady Margaret Hall. The achievement is a testament to her widespread influence as well as her work.
Ceremony and Distinguished Guests
The ceremony was attended by about 200 people including academics, students, alumni, and members of the Malala family. Malala father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, mother Toor Pekai Yousafzai, brother Khushal Khan Yousafzai, and her husband Asser Malik were all present.
Tribute to Benazir Bhutto
Malala, during her speech, paid respect to Benazir Bhutto and termed her an inspiration for women not only in Pakistan but around the world. She said it was a proud moment when her portrait was placed in the same college where Bhutto was placed.
Strong Message on Girls Education
On this occasion, Malala seized the opportunity to address the situation in Afghanistan. She said that the ban by the Taliban on educating girls is dangerous and contrary to basic human rights. She said that denying girls education goes against the true teachings of Islam.
Call for International Action
Malala called on the global community, particularly countries with a Muslim majority, to raise their voices against the Taliban policies. She said nations were supposed to react on the basis of human rights principles and should not normalize the restrictions on women and girls.
A Beacon of Hope and Legacy
Malala graduated from Oxford University in 2020 with a degree in Philosophy Politics and Economics. She continues to support educational initiatives through the Malala Fund and the Oxford Pakistan Programme. The portrait will remain a symbol of her struggle resilience and lifelong commitment to education for every girl.
