The collection of Rs. 6,000 as a fixed monthly GST in the lawyers’ electricity bills was invalidated on Friday by the Lahore High Court (LHC) Rawalpindi bench, according to News Agency.
The Lahore High Court Rawalpindi Bar Association petition was considered by the LHC Rawalpindi bench.
In its ruling, the bench stated that the inclusion of the GST in power bills is invalid, and lawyers who paid the bill using the GST should receive a refund of their payment.
According to the court’s ruling, attorneys are not sellers or shop owners to whom fixed GST can be applied.
It should be mentioned that the current federal government implemented a set regime tax on merchants under the Finance Bill 2022–23.
The general sales tax (GST), which the federal government declared it would be removed from electricity bills for all power distribution firms in the current fiscal year’s budget, will no longer be applied to those invoices, the K-Electric spokeswoman said earlier on Sunday.
The company appreciates the corporate sector and is standing side by side with them, the spokeswoman made clear. The modification to the order relating to the tax will be immediately put into effect by K-Electric.
