In addition to testing a cryptocurrency wallet, South Korean electronics giant LG Electronics has tapped into the Hedera Hashgraph (HBAR) network to deliver NFTs to televisions.
The LG Art Lab NFT marketplace is now up and accessible in the US on the company’s TVs running webOS 5.0 or later. According to the business, the NFT platform enables users to purchase, sell, and display their Hedera-powered NFTs from their displays.
According to LG, the platform has a feature called “LG Art Lab Drops” that “profiles artists and showcases new works coming soon to the platform.” It also features a real-time “Live Drops” countdown that enables users to purchase NFTs that have “just dropped.”
Eight months ago, LG Electronics stated that it intended to add NFTs into its smart TV in order to “redefine watching and user experience.” Now, the company makes the announcement.
LG Electronics is also conducting a developer beta test for Wallypto, a new cryptocurrency wallet software.
The company has registered the app’s name and logo “with domestic and foreign patent offices,” according to News1 and the Shina Ilbo, and plans to “launch officially” before the year is over.
The company also said that it is currently finalizing the features of the wallet but stated that it would also be based on Hedera. According to LG, Wallypto will likely also work with NFTs. The business could potentially try to link the wallet with ThinQ, its quickly expanding IoT platform.
Notably, LG is providing these functionalities over the obscure Hedera network. Hedera markets itself as a blockchain substitute and makes use of its own hashgraph technology, which is a different type of distributed ledger technology.
