A video doorbell may be in the works at Ecobee, a firm best known for its range of smart thermostats. A picture from ZatzNotFunny that was released appears to be a video doorbell with the Ecobee logo, rounded edges, and a blue-outlined button.
According to Zatz, the doorbell has a green status light, two tiny holes, one of which could be a microphone, and is positioned just below the camera. The bright blue light used by the Amazon-owned Ring and Blink doorbells and the rounded corners present on Arlo and Nest devices, as well as other doorbells now on the market, appear to have influenced its overall design.
We don’t know much else about the gadget, including whether it will be wired or battery-powered, save from this one image. However, it’s probable that the doorbell will work with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Existing Ecobee smart security cameras and smart thermostats already have connections for all three systems (and more).
The release date of Ecobee’s alleged doorbell is still unknown, and the business did not immediately reply to a request for comment from The Verge. The company’s Premium and Enhanced smart thermostats were Ecobee’s first new offerings following its acquisition by Generac, a major manufacturer of generators, earlier this year. Prior to their official releases, both of these gadgets were also leaked.
