Since making his Test debut in 2010, veteran middle-order batsman Azhar Ali has been a staple for Pakistan. With more over 7,000 runs in the game’s longest format, the hitter has an impressive record.
Despite being a standout player for Pakistan over the last 12 years, Azhar’s current form has been a concerning development for the national team.
Since his spectacular century against Australia in the first Test match earlier in the year, the flashy hitter has been in bad form. Azhar has failed to reach the 100-run threshold since his 185* in the first innings at Rawalpindi and has only managed to register one half-century, against Australia in Lahore, in 7 Test innings.
His status in the Test lineup is seriously in doubt as a result of his performance in Sri Lanka, which was followed by a less-than-impressive performance against England in the first innings of the Rawalpindi Test match.
With so much on his plate, the former Test skipper has recently shown himself to be a liability, and his performances have often placed Pakistan in trouble. As Pakistan strives to reach their first World Test Championship final, the management of Pakistan will be looking for Azhar to rediscover his prior form and once more provide match-winning contributions.
