Iran will punish the “criminal Zionist gang” for killing Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. They blame the EU’s silence for encouraging Israel’s actions.
Ali Baqeri Kani, acting Foreign Minister, said this in a phone call with Josep Borrell, the EU’s High Representative. He said Israel’s attack broke Iran’s national sovereignty. It also hurt peace in the region and worldwide.
Baqeri criticized some European countries. He said they stopped the UN from condemning Ismail Haniyeh killing. These countries, he said, side with the US and Israel.
He stressed that these countries’ silence about Israel’s actions in Yemen and Lebanon makes Israel bolder. It harms peace and stability in the region. He urged the EU to act and push Israel to stop its crimes. Without action, the Zionist gang will continue to endanger peace.
Borrell admitted Iran’s right to defend itself. He worried about rising tensions. He feared a full-scale war and its effects on people.
Haniyeh was in Tehran for the new President Masoud Pezeshkian’s swearing-in. He and his bodyguard were killed in an Israeli attack on his home.
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Leader, warned Israel of a “harsh response” for Ismail Haniyeh killing. He said Iran must avenge Haniyeh’s blood. The Leader stated that the Zionist regime’s crime will bring severe punishment.
