Iran’s President Raisi helicopter crashed in Varzaqan. The bad weather causes the misfortune. Rescue operations face difficulties from dense fog. No update on Raisi’s condition yet. Search teams and drones have been deployed.
Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and more officials were aboard a helicopter. The plane crashed upon landing in the country’s mountainous Varzaqan region on Sunday. The crash occurred of bad weather.
According to state media Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), search and rescue operations are in progress. There has been no update on Raisi’s condition as of yet.
The governor of the province of East Azerbaijan, Malek Rahmati, and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, were with other individuals on board the convoy. This included three helicopters, two of which had successfully landed.
President Raisi Incident Rescue Teams Faces Challenges
The incident happened subsequent to Raisi’s travel in the East Azerbaijan province. Mr. Raisi and his Azeri counterpart, Ilham Aliev, had launched a dam project on the border between their two nations.
In a news alert, the reporter stated,
“The severe weather and dense fog have made it difficult for the rescue teams to reach the accident site.”
Iran’s Tasnim news agency cited Pir Hossein Kolivand, the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS), as stating that
“40 rapid response teams from the IRCS are currently conducting search operations”
In the area where President Raisi’s helicopter was alleged to have crashed.
“It was very unfavourable weather conditions and difficult terrain,” according to Kolivand,
“we are making every effort to carry out the necessary actions.”
He continued.
“We have used drones and airborne measures. Aerial search activities are not possible. The bad weather is causing troubles. It’s a mountainous and rough environment,”
