The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has undergone a major change as a result of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) directives. The IPC Ministry has reached out to the PM’s principal secretary for advice on Zaka Ashraf’s appointment as PCB Chairman.
After an ECP notification earlier this month ordering the removal of politically nominated heads of institutions, this reportedly occurred. The memo from the IPC Ministry expresses concern regarding Zaka Ashraf’s future by urging careful consideration of “appropriate orders” from the Prime Minister’s office.
IPC Ministry informed about Zaka Ashraf’s lack of party affiliation
The news that Zaka Ashraf had resigned from the Central Executive Committee of the political party on June 19 had surfaced earlier today. The PCB stated in a statement that they have informed the IPC Ministry about Zaka Ashraf’s lack of party affiliation.
The cricket board has declared that the recent campaign against Zaka Ashraf is unfounded and that its true intent is to undermine the sport in the lead-up to major tournaments. Shehbaz Sharif approved the formation of a new ten-member committee under Zaka Ashraf last month in order to resolve the legal problems at PCB.
