Big news for people who want to work or study in Sweden. Sweden’s Migration Agency has started a new way for people to check their passports. This means you don’t need to visit an embassy in person for a visa.
Digital passport checking is a new process. You scan your passport and use a phone app with facial recognition. This makes it easier to get visas and permits.
How to Use this Visa App?
Fredrik Larsson from the Migration Agency explained how it works.
- You download an app.
- Scan your passport.
- Use facial recognition.
It’s for work and student permits.
A Game-Changer for Work and Study Permits
Eligible applicants, including those from 2024, get an email. It has a secure link to check passports online. The link is good for one week.
This new plan makes it easier for talented people worldwide. Before, you had to visit a Swedish embassy, often in another country, for passport checks.
The plan helps about 19,000 work permit and 5,000 student applicants yearly. It includes countries like the USA, Canada, and Brazil.
Not everyone can join now, though. People from countries like India and Pakistan need to visit embassies because they don’t need visas to enter Sweden.
The Local asked about adding more countries to the program. The Migration Agency didn’t give a date but said it’s possible. This new way makes immigration easier in Sweden.
Sweden’s new digital passport check is a great step. It makes the process better for people who want to live and work there.
