Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri said today that the platform’s ranking algorithm will be tweaked to emphasise original content more prominently.
Following the announcement, an Instagram spokeswoman informed sources that the social media company is changing its ranking algorithm to promote the display of original material over replicated content in places like the Reels tab and feed.
In a video posted to his social media platforms on Wednesday, Mosseri stated, “This is primarily focused on the idea of originality.” “If you make something from the ground up, you should be given more credit than if you repurpose something you discovered elsewhere.” We’re going to put in more effort to attempt to value original content more than replicated content.”
Instagram went on to say that reposts of Reels that are already on the app will now be less likely to be recommended.
Accounts that collect and reshare the material of other users will be less likely to be recommended by the firm.
Instagram says that as the app promotes more material, it believes it’s critical that credit, dissemination, growth, and money go to the original author.
Mosseri responded to a tweet from social media analyst Matt Navarra by saying that Instagram already tries to promote original content, but that it is leaning further in that way and will continue to do so.
“As we lean more on recommendations, it’s becoming increasingly crucial that we don’t overvalue aggregators,” Mosseri stated in a tweet. “This would be bad for creators and hence bad for Instagram long term.”
